At JNA, when we refer to a “trio”, we are referring to 3 repeats that coordinate with one another. Take a look at Rae’s example below. For optimal licensing potential, I have found this combination really helpful.

1. COMPLEXITY: the top repeat is absolutely crammed with detail, one coordinate is a medium complexity repeat + the other is simple repeat

2. COLOR VALUES: the top repeat is medium value, one coordinate is a dark value and the other is a light value

3. SCALE: the top repeat is small scale, one coordinate is a large scale and the other is a medium scale.

When an art director has this “toolbox” of repeats to work with, they can design everything from bolt fabric to bedding, from apparel to agendas, from totes to trinket plates! Offering coordinates to your repeats is a good way to make your artwork even more irresistible to clients!
